Pillars of Independence

As I walked into Freedom Park, I initially hesitated at the entrance fee; it was slightly more than I had planned to spend that day. However, standing before this breathtaking monument, I can confidently say it was worth every naira. The statues of Nigeria’s founding fathers—Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Sir Ahmadu Bello, and Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe—were nothing short of magnificent. These towering bronze figures seemed to embody the strength, wisdom, and vision that guided Nigeria to independence in 1960.

Their postures and expressions conveyed volumes about their dedication and determination, capturing the essence of a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s history. As I admired the monument, I could not help but marvel at how excellently its placement within the peaceful confines of Freedom Park complemented its significance. The serene atmosphere of the park, with its lush greenery and calming stillness, seemed to honour the spirit of unity and resilience that these men represented. The monument was more than magnificent; It was a time capsule of hope and hard-fought liberation.
