Minimalist Bliss

When I took this shot at Sol Beach, I was immediately struck by its simplicity. There was nothing overly dramatic, just clean lines, open space, and the soft contrast of the golden wooden frames against the infinite blue sky and sea. It was a moment of pure, unfiltered minimalism. And yet, in that simplicity, I found so much beauty. The untouched sands, the quiet embrace of the ocean breeze, and the tranquil openness of it all brought a profound sense of peace. It reminded me that sometimes, the most minimal elements can evoke the deepest emotions.

But now, looking back at this photo, it feels bittersweet. This serene stretch of Sol Beach, along with its neighboring beaches, no longer exists. The Lagos State Government decided to deconstruct them to make way for new connecting roads. While progress and development are often necessary, it’s hard not to feel a pang of loss for what was sacrificed. What makes it even more disheartening is knowing that several businesses built around the charm and culture of these beaches were forced to close. Places that brought joy, relaxation, and livelihood to so many people are now just memories.

This image captures a fleeting moment, a snapshot of a time and place that will never be the same. It reminds me to appreciate these moments when they come because they can disappear before we even realize their significance.
