On my way back from work in Cambridge, a glint of sunlight caught my eye, reflecting off something vivid and unmistakable, a bright red Coca-Cola can, standing solitary on a weathered wooden bench. Blinded momentarily by the sun’s dance on the aluminium surface, I couldn’t help but notice how the can, though abandoned, radiated a sense of presence, as if it owned its place in the world.
Before I even got close, I knew what it was. That bold red, that iconic script, Coca-Cola’s branding has an almost primal power. Decades of cultural memory and advertising had imprinted it so deeply in my mind that even at a distance, its identity was undeniable. There was something magnetic about it: a symbol of refreshment, a relic of shared experiences, and yet here it was, alone in its stillness, quietly waiting for someone to notice. I don’t know what made me stop. Perhaps it was the irony of something so globally iconic placed in such an ordinary, intimate setting. All I knew was that I had to capture it, a moment where an everyday object became art.
