The Long way Home

This image captures the iconic Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, Nigeria, stretching endlessly over the shimmering waters of the lagoon. Taken from the unique vantage point of a boat, this shot was made possible by two generous gestures. First, the owner of the boat business lent us the boat, along with his most skilled captain; second, the captain, understanding the moment’s importance, kindly brought the boat to a complete stop, giving me a rare opportunity to frame the bridge in all its grandeur. The bridge arches across the horizon, with its concrete pillars and sweeping lines creating a sense of both stability and movement, guiding travellers on their journey back home. My playful manipulation of angles allowed me to capture its length and symmetry, adding depth to the scene. The water beneath, rich and textured, contrasts with the sky above, making the bridge appear as a pathway between realms. This shot, shared with my partner, is a memory of Lagos and its rhythm—a tribute to connections, journeys, and the enduring allure of the city.
